Cultural Capital

At SSSC, we believe that every pupil deserves the opportunity to develop a rich and diverse understanding of the world around them. Cultural capital refers to the essential knowledge, skills, experiences and values that help individuals succeed in life, both academically and socially. It encompasses everything from exposure to the arts, literature, music, and heritage, to understanding the traditions, beliefs and perspectives that shape society.

Across every pathway and phase of the school, we ensure that each child is immersed in meaningful cultural experiences, whether through trips to museums and theatres, engaging with visiting authors and speakers, participating in creative arts and performance, or exploring global and local history through our curriculum. These opportunities are carefully woven into the fabric of school life, enriching our pupils' learning journeys and empowering them to become curious, confident and culturally-aware citizens.

By the time our pupils leave us, they will have accessed a wide and inclusive range of cultural experiences, laying strong foundations for their future lives and learning beyond the classroom.

To support this, we have created a one-page document for each phase of the school, clearly outlining some of the cultural capital opportunities available across the different pathways ensuring transparency, accessibility, and a shared vision for every pupil’s journey.
